# Asynchronous jobs

> Start long-running Sendora operations and monitor them reliably.

When a response contains a `job_id`, the request was accepted but the work is not complete.

```text theme={"dark"}
accepted → pending → running → completed
                         ↘ failed
                         ↘ cancelled
```

Poll the job resource:

```bash theme={"dark"}
curl "https://api.sendora.ai/api/v1/public/jobs/$JOB_ID" \
  -H "X-API-Key: $SENDORA_API_KEY"
```

Stop when the status is terminal. Use a bounded timeout and persist the last observed status.

Polling guidance:

* Start with a short delay, then increase it for long-running jobs.
* Do not exceed the documented rate limit.
* Persist the job ID and request context in your logs.
* Read the error or summary before retrying failed work.
* Prefer the `job.completed` webhook when a push workflow is appropriate.
