# Send message to lead

> Send a manual outbound message to a lead via SMS, Email, LinkedIn, or WhatsApp.
Voice is not supported here, use the campaign API to place calls.

The message is sent from the lead's existing conversation account for the
channel, or the workspace's first active account when there is none.

When a lead is enrolled in an active campaign, sending a manual message
pauses the campaign for that lead to avoid conflicting outreach. This operation can change workspace data or trigger an external side effect; review the request before sending it and do not retry blindly after a timeout.
